The Mortlach 15 year old was matured and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for their 'Distillery Labels’ range. Entrusted with new-make spirit from Scotland’s distilleries to make whisky in their own casks, the range is testimony to the long established relationships built up over the years. This bottling is rich with bags of sherry influenced flavour and has a long-standing fan base.

Founded in 1823 by James Findlater, Mortlach was the first legal distillery to be constructed in Dufftown. Dufftown is now the home of many other distilleries in the Speyside whisky region. For a period the distillery was also used as a brewery and a church. Current owners Diageo use much of the whisky produced in the Johnnie Walker bottling's. There is also an official core range of four single malts introduced in 2018. Since its release the new brand has proven popular and sales are reported to be very healthy. Other recent expressions of note are- The oldest official Mortlach bottling, a 47 year old as part of the Special Releases range. Plus a 25 year old Prima & Ultima swiftly followed by a Rare by Nature 21 year old. Mortlach is well know for being popular with the independent bottlers and it’s quality really shines when matched with ex-sherry casks.

Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Initially sweet, fresh and fragrant with a distinct malty nose. Citrus elements develop - fresh orange peel. Well rounded. With Water: Malty and fresh on the nose with a subtle sweetness present, defined Sherry influences and a hint of chocolate and orange linger in the background.
Palate: More subtle sweetness, hints of candied fruits. A rounded Sherry edge is evident and some raisin and sultana notes emerge. With Water: Light and very delicate with a subtle malty edge, with a rounded Sherry influence and a hint of vanilla also. Slightly mouth warming.
Finish:Long and delicate.
