Knockdhu Whisky
Knochdhu was founded in 1893 and was the first distillery to be constructed by Distillers Company Limited. This distillery is located to the North East of Aberdeen near to the small town of Keith. It’s location was chosen due to an exceptional quality water source discovered on the slope of Knock Hill. There was also Knock train station close by with good links to Aberdeen plus a wealth of local barley and peat in the area which were ideal for whisky making. The one pair of copper pots stills are made to the same specifications as they were when the distillery was first founded. They have fairly tall, narrow necks and straight lyne arms which are connected to worm tubs. As a consequence the style of the whisky is light and fresh and reminiscent of the original single malt produced at the site. At present whisky is bottled under the name anCnoc which is Gaelic for ‘The Hill’ This is a multi award-winning single malt whisky with a great core range.
