Waterford Whiskey
Waterford is a fairly new distillery that was founded in 2015. It is situated on the banks of the river Suir on the South East coast of Ireland. Mark Reynier a former co-owner of Bruichladdich distillery purchased the Waterford Brewery in 2014 and began distilling a year later. The distillery has a unique vision to produce whiskey based on ‘terroir’. Influenced by the world’s best winemakers Waterford demonstrates how ‘terroir’ or the environment has a distinct influence on the resulting spirit.
The local barley used is sourced from many farms in the surrounding area.
Not only has Reynier produced Ireland’s first organic whiskey he has also made the world’s first whisky using biodynamic barley. In the Arcadian Series the biodynamic Luna 1.1 release won Double Gold at the New York International Spirits Competition in 2022.
There are currently three main ranges the first is the Single Farm Origin series consisting of whiskey made from barley grown at individual Irish farms and harvests. Then there’s the Cuvée Concept, a combination Single Origin whiskies. Finally the Arcadian Farm Origin series that showcases organic, biodynamic, heritage and peated barley in the resulting bottlings.
